Born March 15, 1980, Buddha grew up in an ethnically diverse city of Lawrence, Massachusetts (20 miles north of Boston, Ma). DJ Buddha's passion for music originated at a young age. His broad musical influences came from his parents who used to play merengue, salsa, boleros and bachata at home, and his friends, who were into different genres such as dancehall, house music, hip hop and r&b. He inherited his passion for deejaying from his father, who was a musician and a radio disc jockey. In 1990, he started to learn how to work the board and play music for his father’s radio program on WNNW 1110am & Impacto 1490 am in Lawrence, which had him get his FCC radio license at the tender age of 9 years old. Being an active participant in the music scene in the Boston Area, it wasn’t long before DJ Buddha built relationships with the artists whose music he had been promoting & playing on the radio & clubs. In the late 90’s, he began creating mixtapes that combined elements of Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae, Soca, House and Latin Music. His reputation expanded quickly beyond his hometown of Lawrence, MA as his mixtapes reached all along the East Coast and the World. As DJ Buddha's reputation grew, he caught the attention of renowned music producers and artists, securing opportunities to collaborate on projects that would define his career. His ingenious remixes and original productions caught the ears of music industry insiders, garnering critical acclaim and widespread recognition. It was then that he met dancehall reggae group, T.O.K. and became their official tour DJ for about 6 years. While on the road with T.O.K., in 2002, Buddha created a mixtape called “Caribbean Connection,” which delivered the ‘world’s hottest continuous mix of dancehall reggae and reggaeton.’ The premise behind “Caribbean Connection” mixtape was an effort to promote both West Indian and Latin music and fed the growing worldwide demand for the genres. The “Caribbean Connection” mixtape series was critically acclaimed in various outlets including, Fader, Rolling Stones, NY Times, Boston Globe, Miami Herald & MTV.com. While constantly flexing his skills with remixing records for his mixtapes, in 2004 Buddha remixed Daddy Yankee’s “Gasolina", featuring Pitbull and N.O.R.E., and it first appeared on Caribbean Connection Volume 2. It was a smash hit. Later that summer, Lil Jon added his own vocals to the remix, which was featured on Lil’ Jon’s Crunk Juice album. Being responsible for not just finding music and deejaying his concerts, he was able to learn more of the behind dealings of the music industry.
